About Escondido, CaliforniaEscondido Homes for Sale

Escondido is derived from the Spanish word for "hidden," and this community is indeed tucked away in a valley to the north of San Diego. The city recently celebrated its 125th anniversary, and it's one of the oldest communities in San Diego County; it was also named one of the country's most conservative cities in a 2005 study. Here's a little bit more about the history and way of life in the community of Escondido.

History
Escondido lies in a southern tract of part of the original Rancho Rincon del Diablo land grant of 1843, though it has been sparsely inhabited since the late 1700s. It was officially incorporated as a town in 1888. Though it began as a collection of citrus groves, vineyards and ranches lining the long narrow valley, it's now a vibrant, modern community with just the right mix of small-town friendliness and urban innovation and progressiveness.

Escondido Living
The community is divided between affordable older homes, condos, and upscale residences ranging from around $148,000 to over one million dollars. Most of the properties are situated on over-sized, landscaped lots. The current population is 146,057, and the community occupies 68.11 sq. miles, with about 1,134.29 acres set aside for industry. It's a diverse, family-friendly community, inhabited by people of all backgrounds and income levels.

The community is served jointly by the Escondido Union School District and the San Pasqual Union School District. There are also three excellent charter and two classical academies, Classical Academy and the Classical Academy High School. There are eight private elementary schools and three private high schools, all of which are secular schools.

The climate is a mix of moderately warm summers and cool, rainy winters, with an average annual temperature of around 70 degrees. Outdoor recreation is provided by community parks and fishing and boating on the city's three nearby lakes: Dixon Lake, Lake Hodges, and Lake Wohlford. Escondido is about 30 miles to the north of San Diego and a few miles east of the Pacific Ocean.

Things to Do in Escondido
Escondido has a revitalized and thriving downtown area, which has great cafes and restaurants. Arts lovers will be pleased with the fabulous galleries, like the California Center for the Arts, Escondido and the Mingei International Museum.

For outdoor recreation, Escondido is hard to beat. It's a sports-minded town that loves baseball and has a number of youth recreation programs, including a world-champion little league team. The area also boasts hiking and camping facilities, six top-notch golf courses.

Other major outdoor attractions are Queen Califia's Magical Circle, a beautiful sculpted garden designed by world-renowned landscape artist Niki de Saint Phalle, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and wildlife sanctuary, and Daley Ranch, an extensive system of nature trails and protected habitats full of native plants and wildlife.

Escondido has a mellow charm that comes with being a settled community. It's a community that an eclectic mix of people have been proud to call home for over a century, and it continues to march ahead with the times.

This lovely home likely checks everything off both your “Must-have” and “Nice-to-have” lists! More than spacious, the floorplan is well thought-out and offers endless flexibility. With two bedrooms and a full bath separately located at one end of the downstairs, a simple addition of a door could convert this area to a private in-law suite. A spacious living, dining and family room are separate enough to make them useful, but close enough to make large gatherings fun and festive! The real shining star of the downstairs is the massive (really!) kitchen with almost enough counter space to land a small plane! Connecting the kitchen to the family room is a wonderful eat-in area that is large enough to easily accommodate a table for six. With French doors and large windows, the kitchen and family room are bathed in natural light and enjoy endless views of the gorgeous resort-like yard. If privacy is what you’re after, the upstairs primary suite is a true retreat. This spacious getaway features a sitting area and French doors that open to a newly re-built balcony with incredible views. Not to be outdone, the oversized primary bath features separate vanities, a corner soaking tub and two walk-in closets. The smart floorplan continues throughout the upstairs offering a loft, built-in office area, spacious laundry room and two more bedrooms and full bath. There really is something, and somewhere, for everyone. The backyard is as well designed as the inside and features a built-in grill, gorgeous pool/spa, abundant seating areas and even a custom firepit! You name it, this home has it and it’s been lovingly and beautifully maintained. There is a leased solar system with reasonable assumable payments ($300/mo). The solar documents are attached, as is the recent termite inspection and clearance. Priced considerably lower than the recently closed model match, this lovely home should be at the top of your list to see!
